Ridgeland

Perhaps it is symbolic that southbound motorists on I-95 continue straight at exit 22 to enter Ridgeland but must bear left to stay on I-95. Ridgeland is noted for the annual turtle races which are a part of the October Gopher Hill Festival every year. Yet here is a town that has provided its kids with a special park for skateboarding and another kids' park with playground and spray pool. And here is a town that has built an exquisitely landscaped mini-park smack in the center of town for tourists to enjoy a lunch or snack  (Yes, there are many other parks, also, all of which welcome you.) You can stay, every bit as comfortably, in Ridgeland, be minutes away from Hilton Head, Beaufort and Savannah and save a bundle. And after desert, sit back in a swing built for two, relax and enjoy an old-fashioned southern evening under Spanish Moss draped oaks. contributed by R W Masters
